About Me

Hi. My name is Laura. I live in New York City and generally try to continue living life as I did in the mid 80’s.

Cut to 2008. The 52books project came to fruition during a particularly bad bout of tired-of-reading-grad-school-stuff-and-don’t-know-what-else-to-do syndrome. The idea had been around for some time and while I wondered what it would bring, the challenge seemed easy enough. See, I owe everything on this entire website to just one entity: the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. When a move from Texas to Brooklyn took place, my beloved Honda Civic disappeared only to be replaced by a dirty, noisy, oddly cosy, underground reading nook. Each end of the day brought with it a train ride, a regular home for a reader like me. The NYC subway has been and forever will be the home of 52books.

Now that you’re here, you may meet a few friends of mine. The books read here often get introduced to my favorite diner pancakes, some literary (or non literary tunes), and of course, the ever changing landscape of New York. You’ll meet them too if you stick around.

If you’ve got any books to recommend, places to read, or even a song you like, feel free to email me at Laura.52books@gmail.com.
