Stars - Take Me To The Riot

Being that books and music are, well, kind of my thing, I love the New York Times Paper Cuts Blog. They do a feature called “Living with Music” in which authors create various mixtapes. Daniel Handler, author of Adverbs and part-time accordian player for the Magnetic Fields, used this song and wrote:

I’ve loved them forever. Once you hear them you will buy all of their albums, listen to their lower-profile efforts (i.e., Amy Millan and Memphis) and eventually bully them into letting you sit in on accordion. That last part, maybe just me.

I couldn’t agree more. This post is may be an excuse to post a cool link and a song I like, but on the other end of the spectrum I love the response Josh Brazell gave to Jason Mraz’s I’m Yours:

The line “It’s your God-forsaken right to be loved, loved, loved, loved, loved” is probably an honest mistake — Mraz reaching for one cliché and coming up with another — but it gets extra points because “I’m Yours” is actually the worst song ever recorded by a human being. And yes, I have heard the Ray Stevens cover of “I’m in the Mood.”

So there you have it, a terrific series of book people talking about the best and worst of music! Hooray!
