#13: What the Dead Know by Laura Lippman
I have many guilty pleasures in my life: zebra cakes, human oddity specials on TLC, Steve Wozniak, Biggie vs. Tupac conspiracy theroies, and so on. But of course, the one involving this here project is paperback crime novels. I saw this one at the last book swap I attended and promptly put it away for myself, remembering how I went looking for it in stores several months ago only to eventually forget about my search.
And the thing is, I absolutely love this stuff. I’ve had to hold back from over-filled thriller shelves at the airport bookstores, but I don’t feel like I’m going to quit this addiction anytime soon. What the Dead Know was particularly suspenseful, being read in less than 48 hours, and if you’re into this kind of book, then I would recommend it. There are roundabouts in the story, as usual. Then there’s the twist that even I didn’t see coming, there to slap you in the face at the end. So, if you’re looking for sheer entertainment that doesn’t take a lot of effort, here you go.
P.S. This review was written at 2:12am when I finished the book. Please forgive me for the lack of coherence.
